On the basis of outward appearances, Paige Birgfeld lived the life of a
by-no-means-atypical suburban mother.
She lived in a spacious home in a spacious home in a relatively upscale part
of the Grand Valley and as a twice-divorced housewife who retained a
model-like figure and good looks, was constantly on the go trying to
make-ends meet for herself and her three young children.
But Paige Birgfeld also had a secret-side that she kept hidden from her
family and friends, dark secrets that quite possibly led to her
disappearance late last month.
Local investigators are trying to sift through details of her secret life in
hopes of discovering the clue that will lead them to this missing woman.
To his credit County Sheriff Stan Hilkey has devoted not only his entire
investigative staff to the search for Paige Birggeld, but has enlisted the
assistance of two Grand Junction Police Department detectives in the
investigation.
Page Birgfeld is the 34-year-old, single mother of three young children, who
was last seen June 28 after meeting with her first husband, Howard Beigler,
in Eagle.
She was reported missing two days later and on July 1 her 2005 red Ford
Focus was discovered after being set on fire about two miles from her north
Grand Junction home.
Paige Birgfeld has been described as a smiling, friendly woman, a charter
member of the local MOMs club and a successful Pampered Chef consultant.
Her secret life included operating an adult modeling and escort service.
Many of her clients knew her only as "Carrie".
Last year she opened an unlicensed acupuncture clinic.
We will leave it to you kind and sensitive, loving people to surmise just
what sort of services "Carrie" provided in connection with her new found
chosen profession!
Despite that double life, investigators are convinced Page Birgfeld was a
dutiful mother who would never have abandoned her children or voluntarily
leave Grand Junction with no intent of ever returning.
Investigators believe that Page Birfeld probably was the victim of foul plat
most likely related to the "escort services" she provided.
But that doesn't mean investigators have ruled out other suspects.
Sheriff Stan Hilkey says they've had full cooperation from Page Birgfeld's
two ex-husbands, Howard beigler and Rob Dixon, the controversial former
board member for the Grand Junction Rural Fire Protection District.
Baffling cases such as Page Birgfeld frequently turn on a single piece of
evidence or public tip.
That is why the Mesa County Sheriff's Department is asking anyone with
information about Page Birgfeld to call 970-244-3500.
If law enforcement authorities are correct in their assessment that page
Birgfeld was the victim of foul play, it is quite likely that the killer is
on the loose in Grand Junction or elsewhere in Western Colorado.
We can only hope that the Sheriff and City Police investigators determine
just what really happened to the secretive Page Birgfeld and that they get a
real break in this very puzzling case soon.
