In a recent article of the AARP Bulletin, March 2007, it indicated that the
median age in the USA was 36.4 years. This means that half the country's
population is middle aged and or older. While half the population is under
36.4 years of age. I wonder why media/entertainment industry is either
systematically or arbitrarily ignoring the older segment of American
society
? Even the *3* major TV networks (ABC,CBS,NBC) are now over *50* years old,
as are the ages of it's most loyal viewers. This fact seems to be ignored
by
TV executives (I have no idea why), they seem hell bent on making TV shows
for the under 30's crowd, the younger the better, as they see it,again I
have no idea why. Are there no script writers, producers, directors, actors
or actress who are 50+ who can make TV shows of 1/2 hour or 1 hour in
length
or even made for TV movies ? Those loyal viewers who have stayed with the
networks despite an ever shrinking selection of TV programs geared to their
age group is getting ever so smaller, now if they have the TV on at all it
is for a background noise. Why else is satellite radio so popular ? XM
Radio
is to merge with Sirius Radio, think about it for a moment.Even though the
so called Baby Boomers are now retiring they still have life in them,
something TV advertisers and the sponsors of TV shows need to recognize. We
are an aging country like it or not, so Hollywood and Broadway needs to get
with it. Why can we not have TV shows that challenge our intelligence,
rather than insult it ? Why must TV shows be based upon Greed and not
Compassion ? Why must TV shows be based upon foul langue and sex ? What is
wrong with showing polite speech and good manners ?Why must dysfunctional
behavior masquerade as character development ? Remember you are what you
watch !

A lot of people think they are having a good time
when they are really only spending money.

"Subvert the Dominant Paradigm"
Boomers are greedy; kids are needy. And, they're the target market
because they need to be on top in order to get the girl to get laid;
but, *this* girl, she wants to be on top and so, they're going after
that market with the biological imperative because it's their children
they want to hook a priori. If you watch television (I don't), you
generally watch it thinking its advertising's targetting you. It
isn't, if you're starting a family, it's targeting the kids you've
brought into this world; boomers now have grandkids and, the last
thing grandpa and grandma want to do is not be with their grandkids so
they want the quality time with them they could not find with their
parents (that is, the kids boomers brought forth now making them
grandparents).

Grandparents want their grandkids' attention; they want to play with
them, go for walks, have talks and milkshakes. They don't want to sit
in front of a screen with 'em; and, I don't see why they would,
either. We were babysat by television. I gave it up twenty years
ago, now; and, you know what? My life may not be easier; it is a
struggle for each of us; but, it is certainly richer in ways we all
know who remember happiness is a warm gun. But, boomers are now
retiring, a point you make; and, retiring from the workforce thus,
they are not a good target audience since they're investing in real
estate and retirement bonds and the scant future they have remaining.
But, boomers made more a mess of this place called earth than almost
any other generation.

I am not a grandmother; I am not even a mother; the world I saw, I
said, No way would I bring a child into it. It's hell on wheels.
But, apropos of your thought-provoker, perhaps alongside it, a link to
an article on happiness; and, I think it says something additionally
important to the questions (particularly concerning compassion) you're
asking:
